Thanks to the hard work of Steve Meloche and the staff at Johnny Shotz Roadhouse - and you, our great fans - the Windsor Spitfires Foundation was able to present a cheque for nearly $9,000 to Tecumseh Minor Hockey today.

Meloche, organizer of the recent 'Johnny Shotz Spitfires Alumni Game' in support of the foundation, was instrumental in raising the $8,741.56 donated.

"The event was a huge success," Meloche said at a media event Friday at Tecumseh Arena. "All the guys had a great time. It was fun to see all the great players from recent years back together for the first time. Fans had a great time and we were able to raise money so kids without the financial means can play hockey."

Past President of Tecumseh Minor Hockey, Chris Moore, expressed his gratitude to Meloche and the Spitfires Foundation for its support.

"It shows us a lot that the foundation thinks enough of this organization to dedicate an event like this to raising money for our kids," Moore said. "This money will go toward keeping registration costs down, and it will directly lead to kids playing hockey in our community that otherwise wouldn't be able to."

"We're extremely grateful."

Established back in 2006, the Windsor Spitfires Foundation - under its motto "Enhancing Lives, Improving Our Community' - has raised and donated nearly a quarter-million dollars to worthy causes in Windsor and the communities of Essex County.
